Today Conor decided to pick me up from work. I knew that this could only mean that something fantastic happened or something disappointing. Today was the day we would find out how well he did on the MCAT. For many people they may not think this is a big deal, but this test would basically decide where we would go in our future. If he got a bad score, it would not have been the end of the world or his pursue towards being a DO but it would cost us more money and time together, since he would have more to study for and would probably be forced to find a job.
When I jumped into the car and he wouldn’t look at me. I asked him if he found out his scores and he said yes. He still wouldn’t really look at me so I asked how he did. Finally he looked at me and he had the biggest smile on his face and he told me that his score was much better than we ever expected. Conor will basically have his choice of DO schools and if he wanted to apply to MD schools, he could apply to very competitive ones and have a strong potential to be accepted.
It’s almost like a weight has been lifted off of both of us. Mostly him, but I was so proud of him that I had tears rolling down my face as he told me. This meant so much to him and really validated that he’s meant for this path. In the coming weeks we have to sit down and discuss the schools and locations we would like to see acceptance letters from and if he would like to apply else where. He already applied to all the DO programs he’s interested in, so we should start to hear back about interviews. If he wants to apply to MD programs he’ll be doing it in the coming week. Â It’s exciting to know that we are moving along again, for awhile we weren’t really sure what he would be doing and it was a little draining. The interviews and waiting for acceptances or rejections will also be draining but at least we are a step closer to him getting into Medschool and us finally getting married. (We’ve been engaged for over a year)
I’m so proud of him and I’m so excited to walk with him on his journey to become a DO. Watching someone work through living their dream is incredible and I’m so glad that I’ve been able to be there for him every step of the way.
