I want to take a minute to Celebrate, Honor, & Remember those who fought for our country and made the ultimate sacrifice. While we often spend this long weekend at BBQ’s, the beach and out shopping, it’s so important to remember what this day is truly about: those who served and lost their lives.
As I was sitting watching the NCAA Lacrosse Championships there was a segment that the players said a snippet about Memorial Day. What I noticed though is that most of the players didn’t honor the fallen soldiers but mostly only living servicemen and women. Then as I checked facebook, I saw a similar trend in all the posted images and status’.
Memorial Day is often mistaken or confused with Veterans Day but today is for the remembrance and honoring of our fallen heroes.
Today we honor all the men and women who did not come home to their families. Today we honor all the men and women who gave up everything for this country.
Veterans Day is the day that we honor and thank all our military personnel who are serving currently or have served in the past.
Today take a moment and remember and honor a lost vet, here are a few things you can do to make your Memorial Day a little more meaningful:
Volunteer// Head down to a local military cemetary and volunteer your time to help maintain any graves. Most are maintained but sometimes a few aren’t or families have moved away and haven’t been around to check on the grave. Place some flags or flowers if they’re allowed.
Go to a Memorial Day Service// These are at parades and in local community centers often.
Moment of Silence// At your BBQ, hold a moment of silence for our fallen heroes.
Photos//Post photos and stories of family members or friends who were lost in service, today is about remembering them after all
