Happy May everyone! I’ve been a little quiet with posts about what’s been going on behind the scenes here so I wanted to share the happenings of the past month. If you’ve been following snapchat you may have a little more insight as to what’s been going on but not everything!
Finals//
I was a little quiet in April because finals week had sprung up once again. This past finals week was a little rough for me since I was in the middle of adjusting to a new prescription which was giving me awful side effects. After drinking too many cups of coffee, not sleeping nearly enough, and writing too many pages I finished all my course work and exams. I surprisingly ended my semester with an A in macroeconomics, which is my absolute worst subject, and B+’s in my other courses. I will not be taking classes this summer because my financial aid doesn’t cover more than two semesters a year, so I’ll have the summer off and classes will begin again in the fall. I should complete this masters program in about 3-4 more semesters, depending on if I can skip certain prereq courses.
Honeymoon//
Conor and I got married in October but never got to go on our honeymoon. We finally got to go at the end of April and I’ll be sure to add a post completely about our trip. But for now, I’ll let you all know that we went to Puerto Rico for two weeks and even though it rained every single day (minus one!) it was incredible. I took the time to disconnect, to better reconnect with myself and my husband. I also got to spend some incredible time with my grandmother and great-grandmother who turned 92 this year! Like I said, I’ll be sure to write up a post just about Puerto Rico.
New Job//
So because I am not taking courses over the summer, I need to get a job. I have to say it’s been really tough searching for something that pays well enough, will be flexible, and is within either a walking distance or a bus ride. Since my husband takes the car, I need to be able to get to where I’m going without him. I also need flexibility just in case certain things take motion this summer, which I’ll be sure to let you all know about once everything is finalized and confirmed. (Soo many secrets!) Anyway, I was able to snag a fun summer job at the Philadelphia Zoo as an animal attendant. What this means is that I take care of the horses and camels, and I help run the draft horse rides. I thought that I would have a difficult time adjusting to working with horses after not working with them in awhile but it all came back quickly. I’m really enjoying my time at this job, between the coworkers and working directly with the horses, it’s been really great.
New Steps in Recovery//
I’ve discussed my eating disorder here before but never really the extent of it. Physically I’ve recovered from anorexia and orthorexia, however, mentally I’ve been struggling for quite awhile. I made a big step at the end of March and agreed to medication to help aid in my recovery process. I cannot begin to explain how well it’s been going and how well I’ve been doing because of it. Something that my doctor said, finally made me agree to accept the prescription and she told me that “sometimes the brave thing is accepting help, even if it comes in the form of a pill” and that I deserve to be happy and finally feel like I should and did before my eating disorders. I’m not sure if I want to share the extent of my ED experience yet but I’m happy and proud to say that I’ve made incredible strides in my recovery.
Exercise, Yoga & Running//
So I’ve never been one to truly enjoy working out, it was more of something that I made myself do because of my eating disorder. And if I’m going to be honest with myself, my ED started at some point in middle school during my last year in baton twirling. All throughout college I “loved” working out but I don’t think I ever truly did since I was always anxious and over consumed in ED-related thoughts. Since I really started my recovery journey I’ve found true enjoyment in working out and I found things that I love doing. So right now I’ve been really into yoga and running. I feel connected to my body, mind, and spirit. I’ve been working extra hard this month on my running since I plan on doing a recovery run this fall!
Birthday!//
I almost forgot! I also turned 24 yesterday! (May 10th) It’s sort of strange because this was the first birthday I was actually really alone, Conor was at work and I was home by myself. Talk about lonely! I think we might try to squeeze something fun this weekend to celebrate!
What have you all been up to this past month?!
