I feel like Fall has gone by so quickly! Once Halloween is over I know that the holidays will be here before I know it. I was in Bath and Body Works yesterday and I didn’t even realize it until I caught myself singing silently to myself that they were playing Christmas music already! I’m not really complaining because Christmas is my favorite time of year but wow that was so quick. This will be my first holiday season with Choosing Human and so I wanted to do something a little special. It took me awhile to figure out just what to do, however after reading a post from Hayley at A Beautiful Exchange I knew exactly what I wanted to do.
I had heard of Samaritan’s Purse but never really looked into the programs they had until Hayley had explained what Operation Christmas Child was on her blog. Through this program participants will fill a small box with gifts that are gender and age appropriate and then deliver it to either a drop off center or mail it back to the organization. The gifts are then given to children in over one hundred different countries all over the world. In college I participated in a similar program for families in our community; we would not only provide gifts for the children but also held a holiday party for the families. The best part about participating in that program wasn’t just seeing the looks on the children’s faces when they received their gifts but it was the amount of love and sense of community that you felt in that room.
This is a program that brings you and your family back to the true meaning of Christmas. Reminding us to be there for others when they are in need, despite oceans or borders; and sharing love, kindness and generosity. Hayley from A Beautiful Exchange has a strong passion for this organization and decided that she wanted to increase the awareness of not only this program but a new way to give this holiday season; so out of her passion she created the Operation Christmas Child Blog Share. It’s an exciting way that not only has given me the opportunity to get involved, but you can too!
