Hey friends! I hope things are warming up by you, last weekend we got hit by the worst snowstorm. I haven’t filled you all in on what’s been going on around here so here’s our life currently.
Conor
He’s been studying so much for his upcoming board exams. We spend a lot less time together but it’ll be worth it. He actually took a practice exam today and scored much higher than what we were hoping for! Now we just need to make it through to June and then onto rotations. I have to say I’m excited for the weather to start warming up so he can sit outside on our balcony and study, I feel so bad for him when he’s stuck either in school or our office.
MedSchool
We are nearing the end of Conor’s second year. June he’ll take both of his exams for step one and then he’ll begin rotations right after. Third and fourth year are rotation years and we haven’t quite decided yet if he’ll do any away rotations. He will no longer have any summer breaks unfortunately and he’s not going to have many breaks. We’re lucky and he’ll get ten days off for Christmas but we aren’t sure about Thanksgiving yet. I believe that he has his OB/GYN rotation so it’s possible that he won’t be around.
Family
My parents, siblings, and all my grandparents (and great grandma) are now living in South Carolina, which means Conor and I are alone in PA. I’ve been having a tough time dealing with this because we’re all so close and it just doesn’t feel right not having them within a few hour drive. It also kills me that I’m not around for my little brother growing up, he’s turning 13 in August!
Home
My biggest goal for 2018 was to get my home in order. I feel like I have accumulated so much stuff since high school and college that I don’t even know what to do with it all, or why I even have it. I don’t know about you but I just hold onto everything because I feel bad throwing something away that someone bought for me or I want to keep things like craft supplies because I spent the money on it. Finally, I’ve been focusing on each area in my home, decluttering, cleaning, and then organizing. I’ve also been doing a better job at creating routines for myself to clean because before you know it, there’s dust everywhere. I’ll write another post about my minimalist journey, how I’m decluttering and organizing my life. Now that I’ve been decluttering, I can actually start to work on making my home look how I want it to.
Planning
The biggest thing I’ve been “planning” is buying a new car. That’s not the normal type of planning but it’s taking a lot of saving up, research and figuring out what is best for us. We’re looking for something affordable, safe, durable (needs to last 5-6 years) and large enough to fit car seats and strollers. Not that we need those but if we’re having this car for 5-6 years, I better think of the future.
Creating
This may sound totally silly but I’m trying to create a space I love. I really have been focusing so much time on my home and making it the way that I want it. I’ve also been working on a side project that I’ll probably launch closer to June. No hints just yet.
Watching
Who here has netflix? I hope you do, there’s this new show called Nailed It and it is basically pinterest fails live. I finally understand how things can go so wrong so quickly in baking.
Listening
I have been listening to a lot of TEDTalks recently on my podcast and I forgot how much I loved them. I also have been really into the podcast called the Art of Charm and it’s basically a discussion each week on different ways to improve your social skills. I’m such an introvert that I need some kind of direction! Take a listen to it, I’m sure you’ll find it really interesting.
