The winter months always get me down. Once Christmas is over and the fun of the first snow is past, I am a miserable human being. I cannot stand the cold, the wind, ice and the extremely short days. I noticed that a few of my coworkers were also feeling it this past season and everyone has been in a little funk recently. Those few weeks leading up to the beautiful warm Spring days are always rough for me. It’s almost like a transitional stage I go through. Even though I want to be all peppy and get out and do fun things; lets be real, I’d rather sit on the couch by myself (or with Conor) and just watch netflix. Now that the days are finally getting longer and the weather is much more tolerable, I’m really feeling the need to get back on track with just about everything. Here’s what I’ve been doing to help me get out of the funk I’m in:
Go the extra mile and make good food
It’s too easy to just go out and get Panera Bread or my favorite sushi from Yanakos but it kills my bank account and I don’t always feel great after I eat these meals. When I take the time to make a nice home cooked, organic meal I feel so much better about myself. Physically I feel better, and even mentally; I love making things look nice so it’s almost therapeutic and the second plus to that is I get a cute instagram photo for the day 😉
Go for a walk after work
Work drains me. Sitting all day in an office staring at a computer kills. I also don’t have a window where I sit so I have a serious lack of sunlight all day long. Going for a good thirty minute walk is incredible, it refreshes me and I’m so much more productive the rest of my day even though I spent an hour at the park just walking around.
Create a morning routine
Not having a set routine drives me mad, I feel rushed and it starts my day on a bad note. The past 2-3 weeks I’m not even going to lie, I’ve been waking up later and later. So much for being a morning bird. Today I finally got back on track and had so much time to get real things done in the morning. It was nice!
Go through summer clothes
This is a weekend job for me or well two weekends (I still haven’t folded and hung everything up!). Going through your summer clothes and bringing them out is exciting. You finally get to pack away all the bulky winter sweaters because beautiful weather is coming!
Take up a New Exercise Routine
Sometimes we get stuck in a funk when we just do the same old thing and it also affects our workout routines. I love Blogilates because it changes up so often!
Buy some plants
So I’m terrible when it comes to going to a store and seeing plants, I want to buy them all. Having the extra green around really brightens my day and when they bloom, I’m all excited.
Pick up a new book
This I’ve been meaning to do for awhile, look for a new inspiring and motivating book. Even if you only get to read a few pages on the train or before bed. I’m thinking about picking up the Girl Boss one of these days.
Go on a Mini Adventure Around Town
Whenever we head out to a familiar place we always try to take an unfamiliar route. You will never believe some of the things you’ll find when you’re out getting lost in your town!
Organize your desk
This is my biggest clutter culprit. I stuff my desk with so many papers and pens that I don’t even know what I have in there anymore. It’s bad so I decided to spearhead a desk cleaning day. Once my desk is clean my productivity goes up, well until I clutter it again.
Do something different
This is simple, go out and do something you’ve been meaning to do or just do something that you typically don’t.
Inspiring playlist
Spotify has fantastic playlists for every mood so when you’re out exploring throw on a new playlist to inspire you and motivate your journey.
