Pregnancy and Motherhood, Updates

Week 34

December 3, 2018

34 Weeks! I have my last biweekly appointment this week and then at 36 weeks I’ll be going weekly. We’re now doing our best to just get everything together and done before baby gets here. We’re also doing our best to spend as much time together as we can as a couple before we have our new little addition. This week I had my cardiologist appointment and my 34 week appointment which for the most part went well but some things didn’t look so great.

Our 34 Week Appointment
There’s officially less than 6 weeks left until I’m a mom which is crazy. This week I had my cardiologist appointment and regular prenatal appointment. The cardiologist appointment was quick, we did a fast ECG and everything came back normal. My cardiologist though felt that it was best to do a 24hour holter monitor to just be extra sure everything is okay. That was scheduled to happen the same day as my regular prenatal appointment. My busy day of appointments came and I went in to get the holter monitor placed. I’m a little irritated about the holter monitor because the person who put it on me took something that I guess is some kind of scratchy medical grade sandpaper and really roughly scratched my skin where the stickers were supposed to go. When I removed the monitor the next day it actually looked like someone had scratched me lightly with a razor blade in different spots on my chest and belly. They were literally all these tiny little scratches that were surprisingly deep and unfortunately inflamed. After the monitor was placed though I went upstairs to my OB/GYNs office for my standard 34 week appointment.

During my 34 week appointment, we did the standard weight, blood pressure, urine test, and Doppler. We also did a 34-week ultrasound and everything seemed to look good. The ultrasound was planned to get a better idea of how much our baby weighs and to check on how much amniotic fluid is there. For the most part everything looked good, we got to see our baby breathing which is fantastic, we also saw that baby has hair. We were not able to see the face at all though which is really disappointing but a trade-off is they’re in the perfect position for labor and delivery. Hopefully baby stays this way and I do think baby will since at a minimum of 28 weeks. After the ultrasound I was told that baby weighs 5lbs 2oz and later when more complete information came back from the ultrasound we found out that babys head isn’t measuring where it should be which is concerning. Everything about our baby is measuring ahead and around the 55 percentile but babys head is measuring at 31 weeks which is under the 5th percentile. My next appointment we’ll be discussing this in more detail about what it means and if more testing needs to be done. It’s possible that baby was just so low that we couldn’t get a good reading but it’s honestly making me very nervous and upset.

The basics:
How far along?
34 weeks 6 Days

Due date:
January 8th, 2019

All about baby:

Size of baby
The size of a butternut squash depending on the app, about 18inches long according to our ultrasound this week, our baby is about 5lbs 2oz.

What’s going on in there?
Lots! Our baby is still working on their lung development and practicing breathing. We actually saw this on the ultrasound and after seeing it I now realize that I’ve been feeling our baby do this since about 25 weeks. Apparently our little one should be establishing a sleep schedule at this point and closing/opening their eyes when it’s nap time and awake time. I can absolutely tell when our baby is up because the movement is nonstop and pretty rough. Baby should also start getting thicker vernix this week before it starts to shed.

Have you decided on a name?
We have a name but we are considering different spellings now…

All about momma:
Weight Gain:
I lost the 3lbs I gained. I give up on this aspect of pregnancy.

How are you feeling?
I’ve actually been having a lot of pain this week in my hips. It’s weird because I’ll be okay when I’m sitting down but once I have to move it’s pretty painful. I’m still feeling a little out of breath and tired but that’s normal at this point.

Are you having any cravings?
Nope not really, just holiday stuff which is normal for me.

How are you sleeping?
Horrible! I am up at least once a night to run to the bathroom and then I wake up at 5am when Conor gets up and it’s just unrestful sleep from then until I get out of bed. I don’t want to get up at 5 though because I get so tired by 2/3pm that I would love to get more rest if possible.

Maternity Favorites
My TOMS heeled boots. I absolutely love them, I’ve been wearing them my whole pregnancy. They’re comfortable and make me feel a little more put together. I have to say on the days that I’ve wearing leggings and a random top with a sweater, adding these boots really help to make me look like I’m going to work haha.

What are you excited about?
So my excitement has officially been replaced with anxiety. I feel like I’m running out of time and just after the ultrasound I’m having a tough time right now. It’s not that I’m not excited, I’m just experiencing a lot of anxiety about what’s to come.
